Description of Action

     Establishes the City’s Preliminary non-ad valorem assessment rate for Fire services and calls for notice of a final hearing on annual rate to be held on Thursday September 12, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. with notice to be provided through the County’s annual TRIM mailing notice.  Funds are used by City to pay for costs of Fire services provided under contract with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and annual legacy funding costs of the City’s Fire Pension plan.

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary

     Proposed rate adjustment will provide annual funding of approximately $5,028,000 toward the City’s annual fire/rescue service costs that total ~$10,825,000.  While the recommended Fire Assessment rate of $160 per residential unit is an increase of $31.58 yr. from current levels, the adjusted rate allows Dania Beach to remain below the County’s median Fire Assessment of $169.25 yr. while providing funds needed to pay for increased annual contract operational costs and Fire employee retirement benefits.
